Seeing the Sights: A student’s guide to an exciting spring break in Austin on a budget.

Whether you’re staying in Austin this spring break or paying a visit to the “music capital of the world,” there are TONS of exciting things you can do while you’re here.

 

1.     SXSW

SXSW is always a great way to spend your spring break. If buying a pricey ticket isn’t your thing, don’t worry, because there are TONS of free events for people of all ages to enjoy. Check out this link for more info.

2.     Street Salsa Classes on March 13th

Dance Studio Austin will be holding a Cuban salsa class on March 13th. This would be a fun and unique place to take a date and it is super inexpensive too!

 

3.     St. Patrick’s Day Festival

This is a great event to attend on March 17th if you’re looking for a cultural way to celebrate the holiday! There will be lots of performers, including those showcasing Irish traditions. Plus, there are tons of family-friendly events at the festival.

4.     Austin Poetry Slam

The Spiderhouse Ballroom hosts Austin Poetry Slam every Tuesday, so head on over during spring break on the 15th! If you’re feeling daring, you can even get up on stage yourself.

 

5.     Sahaja Yoga meditation on March 16th

The North Austin Business Center will be hosting Sahaja Yoga meditation classes on March 16th. Definitely check this event out and find some time to de-stress with a FREE class. The classes are open to all ages.

 

6.     Lamppost Comedy Open Mic Night

On March 17th, Lamppost Coffee will be having an open mic night. This event is actually in Round Rock, but it’s only about a twenty-minute car ride away. This would be a fun event and is sure to have you laughing. It’s free to get in, which is always a huge bonus. If you think you might be one of the funny ones, you can show up 30 minutes early and sign up on the spot! 

 

7.     Rodeo Austin

The Austin Rodeo is definitely a must if you love food, carnivals and live music. Grab a group of friends and head to the carnival for the day, or get tickets to one of the amazing concerts as well!
